Before buying a horse for a child, arrange lessons with a local stable to see if the youngster is really attached to these animals and is prepared to take good care of the pet.

Never buy horses from wholesales and dealers; choose only reputable breeders because only in this case do you have a guarantee that the animal is healthy and socialized. Such horses are easy to train and ride, because they were raised in a friendly atmosphere. They are free from hereditary disorders because responsible breeders check the sire and the dam prior to mating them. A stable where you are going to keep the horse is a good place to buy an animal and instructors will help you choose the best-suited animal.

If you are a novice owner, ask a specialist to accompany you to the breeder, because there is much to observe in the conformation and behavior of the animal. You should see the horse in the stall and in pasture. You should pay attention to how it behaves when someone is catching, loading and hauling it. The vet should check new horses for a number of typical disorders as well as ensure vaccinations and de-wormers are up to date.
